This paper shows the application of the SRTM topographic data of 30 and 90 meters of spatial resolution in the model of terrain HAND (Height Above the Nearest Drainage), developed at the National Institute for Space Research, reveals that the hydrological characteristics of the landscape. The HAND classification model shows potential representation of the landscape when it is normalized with respect to drainage. The study area is located in Central Amazonia (Brazil), has about 47 thousand square meters and involves the confluence of the Negro and Solimoes Rivers that form the Amazon River. HAND model was applied in two resolutions described and the results were classified according to four classes with hydrological significance, called HAND classes (class 1, waterlogged; class 2, ecotone; classe 3, slope and class 4, plateau). Comparing the two HAND mappings, the interference of the forest canopy and outbreaks of deforestation is greatest in the finer scale, adding errors. In local analysis, the data of 30 meters provides more information than the 90 meters, but on global scales, data from 90 meters are best. The classes slope (class 3) and plateau (class 4) are the ones that suffer the most influence with the spatial resolution of the data.
